From the fortress wall of Jericho,
two stones broke free completely
and started down the steep incline
to seek God in the heavenly realms.
They crawled upward through sun and cold.
They felt the pull of the earthly weight.
But in the battle with the old self,
they weren’t ready to raise the white flag.
Their path soon narrowed,
and fierce storms pursued them.
Yet at the heights they reached,
the outlines of Christ appeared.
A Rock with an ethereal light,
and in it a crack… a pebble could pass!
The path had turned into a wall,
and the traveler had only one choice…
“Oh, Lord! Accept our spirit!” –
came the cry from the two stones then –
“With Your hands, take us to You!
Let us be a Temple for Your Eternal Glory!”
And there, from the heavens, a Holy angel,
shone above the stones with a hammer in hand.
“The faithful do not retreat,
when they stand before the Rock!
But I will purify you – piece by piece.
Let each become a stone of Faith.
For in your veins there’s much earth,
and pride, and arrogance, and corruption.
What have you decided? No way ahead,
before I can strike you with the hammer!
For the Faith of the Lord is a Covenant!
And that’s why you are here now…”
From the angel’s words a sorrowful groan
passed through the stones like an earthquake.
“Oh, let us return to Jericho,
for this spirit has destroyed many!
It has trampled our dignity,
and seeks to take away our holiness!
We felt it! A horned devil,
ready to ravage us without warning!”
The stones rolled down in a tremor,
downward, toward the world of darkness,
and from the all-powerful lure of Jericho,
they once again walled themselves in the wall…
