BEFORE THE SUNRISE

By Yasen Vedrin
(The Vine of Engadi)

“Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove,
my undefiled: for my head is filled with dew,
and my locks with the drops of the night.”
(Song of Solomon 5:2)

If dew should come to cover up my head
And night drops in my hair begin to gleam –
Along a path of sleeping skies I’ll tread,
To come to you upon the horse of dream.

Awakened now – please open wide the door.
More real than sleep, I’ll fold you in my space.
A burning ray from eastern shores will soar
To call us out into its wild embrace.

And in the flight to moments past compare,
Sparks will fade out in clicking horseshoes’ stride.
Follow me now! And let us burn and share
One Love that stands above all loves beside.
